Youngster Jacob climbs the ladder to parliament after raising charity cash in memory of his father

A boy aged just ten who lost his dad to cancer is the subject of a parliamentary motion lauding his “selfless” actions.Jacob Williams naturally remains devastated about the death of his father Nick to skin cancer in August.But he decided to make his mark and help the Beatson cancer treatment unit and ACCORD Hospice in Paisley who cared for Nick at the end.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.Dozens of MSPs across the political spectrum have now supported the Scottish Parliament motion submitted by West of Scotland Conservative MSP Russell Findlay.The motion commends Jacob’s kindness and generosity and congratulates him for raising £2,700 after “selflessly asking his friends and family not to give him any presents for his birthday, but instead to donate to charity.”Jacob, who lives in Paisley with his mum Louise Archer, is delighted with the honour.He said: “When mum told me that an MSP wanted to mention me and the fundraising I did for the Beatson in the Scottish Parliament I was amazed.“I never imagined that could happen and I didn’t even really know what it meant at first so my mum had to explain.“Mum says my dad would be so proud of me.”Arty Jacob painted three water colours which sold at the ACCORD annual art exhibition.And for his tenth birthday he asked everyone not to give him a present, but to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity.At that time his dad had just finished treatment and got home.Nick died aged just 49 and spent just over a week being cared for by the ACCORD in August before he passed away.Mr Findlay said: “We can become used to hearing stories of amazing people who do incredible things on behalf of others, but when I read about what Jacob had
