A young woman needed an operation every day for a week to save her life after a flesh eating bug bit her on her thigh. When oblivious Rhea Webber first noticed a small painful spot at the top of her leg she dismissed it.

But less than five hours later, her life had suddenly changed. The 27-year-old's entire thigh was inflamed with parts of her flesh turning black as she also began suffering with severe sickness.

She was unknowingly battling necrotising fasciitis - a rare but serious bacterial infection that affects the tissue beneath the skin.
