St Patrick’s boss Johnny O’Brien hailed youngster Lewis Lobban as he helped the Dumbarton side to the season’s first silverware.The striker thrived in front of a big crowd at East Kilbride’s K Park, as St Pat’s put last season’s cup heartache behind them with a commanding win to lift the Alex Owen Challenge Cup.And gaffer O’Brien said he had a feeling Lobban would star under the lights on Friday night.He said: “After watching Lewis Lobban training all week I just had a feeling that he was going to have a good night.“I should also say that he was ably backed by his teammates, who, to a man, were excellent.”Coach Zander Diamond added: “We were in control for almost the whole game and were a joy to watch.“For our players, especially the younger ones, to get the first trophy of the season in the bag will hopefully lead to greater successes.”Saints had a sluggish start to the match but, from the 20th minute onwards, they would go on to totally dominate their opponents.They thought they had taken the lead in the 22nd minute when McColl burst forward and, despite being fouled, managed to squeeze a pass through to Lobban, who weaved past two defenders before confidently netting.However, the referee pulled the play back to award Saints a free kick – much to the annoyance of the St Patrick’s fans.OBC had dodged a bullet, but within five minutes they did fall behind.Ciaran McElroy and Liam Rowan played a neat one-two down OBC’s left wing before Rowan’s powerful drive was charged down illegally by Ridge for a stonewall penalty.

McElroy did the honours, slamming his shot into the net to give his side the lead.Saints were now rampant and they doubled their lead in the 36th minute.Lobban, who was giving OBC’s defenders a torrid time,
