During a home match, the unthinkable happened to the family of a Wrexham AFC player. Months early, at just 25 weeks into their pregnancy, footballer James Jones and his partner Chloe had to welcome their baby in a terrifying emergency.
The couple felt the fear familiar to so many parents know when the nerve-wracking weeks of pregnancy don't go to plan. On November 19 2022, during a home game against Aldershot Town, Chloe, who was 25 weeks’ pregnant, started to experience severe abdominal pain so was taken to Wrexham Hospital where she was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia.
Both Chloe and her unborn baby were in immediate danger so the decision was taken to perform an emergency caesarean, before being rushed to the Royal Bolton Hospital for life-saving care.
After their little boy Jude was born 15 weeks prematurely, and 122 days in the Bolton hospital where his life hung in the balance, the family has raised thousands of pounds for the neonatal intensive care unit.
