‘Limited works’ are to start at the Hulton Park next year as a developer has reaffirmed its commitment to building a Ryder Cup golf course and more than 1,000 homes.

In 2022, a planning inspector approved plans for a huge golf resort at the country park, west of Bolton. The vast development scheme also includes a hotel and what developer Peel Land describe as ‘a hub of inclusive golf’ for the UK.

The scheme will only go ahead if the venue is selected to host a Ryder Cup in the 2030s, with Peel saying that the event alone would bring in around a billion pounds of economic benefit to Bolton and the wider Greater Manchester region.

No announcement has yet been made on England hosting a future Ryder Cup. Peel announced earlier this ensure progress continues to be made, they will begin some limited works at the site before the expiry of the current planning permission in October 2025.
