A firm is asking for a further ten years to complete work on an unsafe quarry face which they originally said would be completed by 2021.

Armstrongs Group operate Montcliffe Quarry, close to the West Pennine Moors and Rivington Pike, near Horwich. Bolton Council’s planning committee will be asked this week to increase the period of time for stabilisation works at an unsafe part of the quarry by 10.5 years.

The council has received 33 objections to the plans, many saying extending operations for a further 10.5 years is excessive and not justified.

In February 2015, re-profiling and stabilisation work to the north eastern face of Montcliffe Quarry was approved after an independent inspection found the face was unsafe.
