A woman who brutally stabbed her mother to death then hid her body in a cupboard under the stairs faces a life sentence. Cassandra Scott, 36, was unanimously found guilty of murder after she knifed her mum Beverley Scott 10 times in a drug fuelled rage.

She didn't call for an ambulance, and her mother's body was only found more than two months after the murder, covered in plastic sheets, bed covers and old curtains. After subjecting her mother to a vicious attack in the kitchen of their Longsight home, with two blows piercing the back of her heart, she left her to die then hid her under the stairs.

A housing officer discovered Beverley's body after concerns were raised about her whereabouts. Manchester's courts are some of the busiest in the country with a vast array of cases heard every week.
