Avocados are one of those foods that come with a myriad of health benefits from being good for the heart to protecting against eye-related problems.
However, those who eat the fruit (not vegetable!) will be all too aware of the struggles of cutting open an unripe avocado. Not only is it a pain to cut through, but the bitter taste can be seriously off-putting.
However, one diner found a nifty trick to ensure that avocados can ripen in just 24 hours. Danish-Australian Instagrammer Caroline Groth wowed thousands after sharing her hack on her social channels involving another green fruit.
She shared a video of herself placing an avocado in a brown paper bag with a kiwi and told followers: “Guys, Green Skin + Shepherd Avocado season means I legit need a spreadsheet to keep track of when I’ll have avocados to eat because they take foreeeeeeeever to ripen. “But no more… insert the best 101 life hack ever. “The kiwi fruit releases ethylene gas - a plant hormone that aids the ripening process - and the paper bag traps the gas so the process works faster meaning you’ll have ripe avocados in 24 hours.” With fans quickly rushing to the comment section to express their surprise at the method, Caroline added that bananas can be used as a substitute for kiwis.
