Woman ditches 30-year career during pandemic to launch her own mental health programme

A mental health mentor is determined to see those struggling with depression, anxiety and low mood flourish, with the help from her new workbook.Debbie Lees, 46, from Prestwick, lived with low self esteem, depression and anxiety for 20 odd years before overcoming her struggles through a mental health programme.Now she’s on a mission to see others thrive through her new business and workbook Flourish with Debbie.Debbie worked in the aerospace industry since she was 16 before leaving her full-time job during the pandemic in 2020 and starting her new venture to help others, after undertaking training in mental health and psychology.She said: “It just got to the stage where I wasn’t really getting a lot of job satisfaction.

I wasn’t enjoying what I was doing.“Covid came along and there was an opportunity to apply for voluntary redundancy.“I decided that was it and I stopped working there and basically spent six months writing up my own material."Debbie’s programme consists of a weekly visit while completing seven modules, addressing people’s emotions and thinking patterns to better equip them to get through their struggles.“It’s for people with low mood, depression, anxiety, low self confidence and low self esteem, but I’ll tailor the programme to suit them, so it’s specific to the client, rather than a one size fits all”, she said.“With some therapies, people can go in and talk about how you’re feeling and you get it all off your chest, but then you’ll wake up the next morning and just feel the same- because you haven’t resolved anything or haven’t got to the root cause of the problem or haven’t changed your thinking styles.“The programme looks at people’s belief systems, thinking patterns, their own behaviours and rewires
