A woman who grew up estranged from part of her family has discovered a hidden windfall, and many more people are believed to be in a similar position.

Julia Scribbins, and her brother, Christopher, from County Durham, are set to inherit a share of £600,000, two years after the death of their long-lost uncle, Reginald Aldham.

The retired architect, known as Robin, 78, died in Cambridge, two years ago, without a will nor any known next of kin. "I had no idea about this side of my family.

I did know my grandparents but beyond that I didn't know any other relations," Julia said. She's since discovered her father was a first cousin of Robin. "My grandfather and Robin’s mother were brother and sister," Julia said.
