Join thousands of others who have signed up for the Daily Record newsletter.A Motherwell woman claimed an assault on a friend led her to get behind the wheel after a drinking session.Laura Mackie, 35, of Merryton Tower, was fined £300 and banned from driving for 18 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.She admitted driving near her home while almost three times over the drink limit on April 20.The court heard police traced Mackie after finding her vehicle abandoned around 7am.Defence agent Andy Iles said his client and a female friend were drinking in a flat when two men arrived.A disturbance followed and Mackie’s friend was allegedly assaulted.Mr Iles told the court: “My client asked one of the men to leave.
