Woman, 20, seriously injured in early hours crash on road near city centre

A young woman has been left with serious injuries following a crash on a major road on the edge of Manchester city centre. Police were called to the smash involving two cars in Cheetham Hill Road at about 5.20am today (Saturday).

The incident happened near to the junction with Trinity Way. A 20-year-old woman was cut from one of the vehicles by firefighters.

She was then taken to hospital with what police describe as "potentially life-changing injuries". The road reopened at about 12.25pm. Greater Manchester Police is now appealing for witnesses to the crash. PC Loxham, the force's Roads Policing Lead Investigator, said: “This was a very serious accident that occurred early in the morning. “We are asking anyone who may have been walking home along Cheetham Hill Road or Trinity Way at the time, or anyone driving down the same roads, who may have witnessed the incident, to come forward. “We would also like to view any dashcam or CCTV footage that covers the junction around the time of the accident.
