The former Arsenal goalkeeper had cemented his place as The Gunners no.1 over previous seasons, but his run between the sticks was to come to an end after breaking Wenger's rules.
Arsenal had travelled to Southampton on New Years' Day in 2015, but came away without a share of the points after two costly errors from Szczesny.
His mistakes allowed Sadio Mane and Dusan Tadic to score in the 2-0 loss, in a match where Wenger was confronted by an Arsenal supporter on the pitch in the dying moments.
