In a marbled corridor of Manchester Town Hall, Chris Lawley sits at table with a cup of tea. For almost half an hour, she scribbles away on sheets of paper.

Then, after finally putting the pen down, she wipes away a tear. Chris, 78, had just recounted in detail her experience of the Covid-19 pandemic.

After the first wave of the virus hit, and the country went into lockdown, not only was artist Chris unable to make her daily trips to her city centre studio, she was prevented from seeing her elderly mum.

Florence, who was in her 90s, worked for the Secret Service during the Second World War and had lost her husband 12 prior. She was living in a retirement flat in the Lancashire town of Lytham St Annes.
