He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time,” his son confirmed, via Deadline.
In the ’80s, he had three consecutive nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actor, for Kiss of the Spider Woman, Children of a Lesser God and Broadcast News, and he won for Kiss of the Spider Woman.
He also starred in Off-Broadway productions including Henry V, Fifth of July, Richard II and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and received his first Tony Award nomination in 1985 for the Broadway production of Hurlyburly. William Hurt is known for dozens of roles throughout his career, including A.I. (Artificial Intelligence), The Village, The Good Shepherd, Into the Wild and Robin Hood, and was a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Thaddeus Ross.
