Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth passed away at the age of 96 on 8 September following a 70-year reign. Her Majesty was known as Britain’s longest reigning sovereign and following her death, her funeral is should be taking place 10 days after, making it Sunday 18 September.
It is expected that the service will take place at Westminster Abbey and that there will be a national two-minute silence at midday.
The official plans following the Queen’s death are known as ‘Operation London Bridge’ and 'Operation Unicorn', and last year Politico detailed what this means and whether or not there will be a bank holiday.
Though the funeral will take place on a “day of national mourning”, which is effectively a bank holiday, it won’t be named as such.
