Matt Minton mminton@variety.com 17 years after he starred in “Hancock,” Will Smith is teasing details about a possible follow-up to the superhero film.
When the Oscar-winning actor made an appearance on xQc’s Twitch live stream, he provided some more information about the project. “There’s a really cool, really cool ‘Hancock 2’ idea,” Hancock said during the stream. “We haven’t even talked about it so I’m gonna give you one little piece — Zendaya is being approached for a role in ‘Hancock 2.” “Hancock” was released in 2008 and featured Smith as an amnesiac, alcoholic superhero who has to contend with the damage he leaves behind when saving lives in Los Angeles.
After he saves a couple’s life (Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron), they work with him to help improve his public image and remember his past.
The Sony film was directed by Peter Berg, who went on to direct “Deepwater Horizon” and “Patriots Day” starring Mark Wahlberg, and written by Vy Vincent Ngo and “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan. “Hancock” grossed over $600 million worldwide on a $150 million production budget.
