The 34-year-old joiner from Marsh Green died after he was found with serious injuries in the gardens of Wigan Parish Church on August 6 last year.
Prosecutors allege that he was attacked by a group of young men who were trying to rob him and take his Rolex watch. His death probably came about because of a kick to his face which had 'considerable force' behind it, an expert has told Manchester Crown Court.
