A widow who handed her £15,000 life savings to a well known firm days before it went bust was overjoyed yesterday after being gifted a brand new kitchen.Pensioner Caroline McVicar was left waiting for fitters to turn up to her home this week before learning that DM Design had gone into liquidation.The 72-year-old told how she was stuck with a “shell” of a kitchen after the firm, which called itself “Scotland’s longest running kitchen, bedroom and bathroom company”, ceased trading with the loss of more than 30 jobs.Now a big-hearted Paisley company has come to her rescue and arranged to complete the work for free.Caroline said: “I’m so happy and really grateful.“I couldn’t bear the thought of more months of being stuck like this and not being able to cook.“This has restored my faith in others.“They’re coming out to measure up next week.”Around 30 customers are understood to have been affected when DM Design, based in Cumbernauld, ceased trading last week.Gran-of-five Caroline had handed over the last of the cash for her £15,000 kitchen at the end of February.She told the Record she was “absolutely gutted” after learning the firm had gone bust as she sat in waiting for fitters on Monday.The mum-of-two, from Hamilton, had returned to live in Scotland in recent months from Spain, where she had emigrated with her late husband 25 years ago.She had bought a new home and put the last of her savings into the kitchen after months of sleeping on relatives’ couches.Weeping, she had told the Record: “It’s all the money I’ve got. “I’ve been left high and dry.”But within hours of Caroline’s story appearing in the Daily Record, Instyle Kitchens and Bathrooms, which has showrooms in Paisley and Greenock, had arranged to supply and fit
