“Wicked” is now available to stream from video-on-demand (VOD) retailers, including Prime Video. Based on the long-running Broadway musical of the same name (and the novel that inspired it), “Wicked” is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” that explores the life of the Wicked Witch of the West before her encounter with Dorothy and a bucket of water.
Named Elphaba in the musical and film, the Wicked Witch is played by Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo. Green goes good — er, well — with pink, and Erivo fits perfectly with her co-star Ariana Grande, who portrays the iconic Glinda the Good.
In addition to near-universal acclaim, Erivo and Grande both received Golden Globe nominations for their work in the film. While the Golden Globes won’t be decided until later this weekend, “Wicked” is available to watch at home right now, just in time to ring in the new year.“Wicked” is streaming on platforms like Prime Video beginning tomorrow, December 31, at 12:00 a.m.
ET/9:00 p.m. PT. “Wicked” will be available for digital purchase on Prime Video. The film costs $29.99.While you won’t have to be a paid Amazon Prime member to buy “Wicked” digitally, you will need at least a free Amazon account; that way, you can return to watch “Wicked” as often as you’d like.
