Ian Evatt said the half-time substitution for Gethin Jones and all the other changes Bolton Wanderers made versus Crewe Alex were all planned as the Whites boss wants his side to take the Papa Johns Trophy opportunity as a chance to get to Wembley.
In Group B of the Northern section of the draw, Wanderers took the lead early on through Amadou Bakayoko. However, the Railwaymen drew level not long after through Courtney Baker-Richardson.
Wanderers went ahead after the break thanks to Dion Charles, before Kieran Sadlier added a third with a classy finish. Charles added his second and Bolton's fourth before the end to ensure a 4-1 win. Evatt revealed the changes made, including the one for Jones were all planned. The reward for making it out of the group and through the various knock-out phases is eventually a trip to Wembley.
