But fast forward on the back of an unbeaten run which stretched to 14 matches, Bolton find themselves third in the division and just two points off the summit with five games remaining.
They are only a point behind second placed Cambridge United and two from leaders Cheltenham Town, though Michael Duff's side do have a game in hand on Wanderers.
