They're taking place on Thursday, May 6 after being postponed last year due to coronavirus. As the pandemic still persists, there will be a number of changes in place at polling stations to ensure they are 'Covid-secure'.
But when was the last time they took place? Local council elections enable people to have a say on who they would like to see in charge of their local public services and how they are run.
This includes things such as schools, libraries, and bin collections. Councillors are elected in four-year terms by the local community and are usually held on the first Thursday in May.
