According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is planning to open more brick-and-mortar retail locations “that will operate akin to department stores,” and these will serve as a showcase for its clothing, household items and electronics - including in the UK.It is an interesting move from the online giant.
For the past decade, it has been blamed for what’s known as the ‘retail apocalypse’. High streets that once commanded sky-high rents are now populated by empty storefronts.
Chains that once seemed unstoppable have quietly entered into administration – heritage department stores, particularly, have taken a hit, outdone on price and speed.
