Kitchen gadgets are designed to make cooking simpler, but some can be difficult to wrap your head around. Even the most simple pieces of equipment, such as the cheese grater, can have additional uses that you may never have considered.
They may be commonplace in the kitchen, but a recent discovery has shown that many were unaware of its full potential. It comes after one confused Reddit user posted an image of a four-sided box grater focusing on the side with the tiny holes, the Mirror reports.
In the caption, they wrote: "Does anybody ever use this part of the grater? What is it even for??" Commenting on the post, which was shared in the Casual UK thread, the author added: "All this has ever done is hurt my hand, but I've literally never used those smalls hole graters ever.
Pretty much just use the other side for making grated cheese." It turns out he was not alone in his confusion, as many other people were also unaware as to what the side was meant to be used for.One joked: "It's to ruin your sponges when you start to daydream while washing up."And another added: "I thought it was just for tearing your knuckles to shreds as get to the end of the ginger."However, that particular commenter wasn't far off, as several people explained the proper use of that side."Lemon, nutmeg, parmesan...loads of stuff", one person said, with another suggesting: "Hard cheeses like Parmesan and Grana Padano.""It’s for finely grated cheese.
