St Johnstone skipper Kyle Cameron is adamant ref Matthew MacDermid DID blow his whistle and give them a free-kick before Cyriel Dessers hit the back of the net.Saints were left fuming after their Premier Sports Cup tie with Rangers turned on a bizarre moment in the second half that saw MacDermid initially appear to stop play and give St Johnstone a free-kick BEFORE Dessers scored.
However he was called over to the VAR screen and, after a review, he gave the goal anyway. An SFA statement explained the decision, claiming that MacDermid hadn't actually blown his whistle before Dessers' goal went in, and the gesture indicating the free-kick wasn't in itself enough to stop the play.
That didn't fly in the Perth Saints camp however - Craig Levein was left apoplectic after the match asking reporters 'what the f*** happened there?' And captain Cameron added to the criticism as he revealed a chat with the ref that left him even more confused.
The big centre-back said afterwards: “The decision turned the game and it has cost us a result. I’m 90 percent sure that, as Dessers is about to finish, he’s blown his whistle.
