From “moisture sandwiches” to applying frozen cucumber over your face, there is no shortage of weird, wonderful and downright wacky skincare trends to be found on TikTok.
But the latest to do the rounds – “skin cycling” – looks like it might actually be worth paying attention to. Created by US dermatologist Dr Whitney Bowe, skin cycling is a four-day routine in which you use a different type of skincare product each night. “Skin cycling has transformed the skin of my patients who have acne, rosacea, eczema, brown spots – or who are just looking to get the most out of their skincare routine,” Dr Bowe explains in a TikTok video.
Here are the four stages of skin cycling: Night one: Exfoliation night – using a chemical or acid-based exfoliant after cleansing.
Night two: Retinoid night – a moisturiser can be applied first as a buffer if your skin is sensitive or new to retinol. Follow with moisturiser.
