Jadon Sancho spared Cristiano Ronaldo's blushes after giving Manchester United a 1-0 lead in their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Middlesbrough at Old Trafford this evening.
Just five minutes after Ronaldo, uncharacteristically, dragged a 20th-minute penalty wide of the target, Sancho, via a deflection, saw his left-footed effort beat Middlesbrough goalkeeper Joe Lumley at the far-post and bulge the net.
The England international had connected with Bruno Fernandes' excellent pass, feinted to come inside, before continuing down the outside and firing a low effort into the back of the net to mark his first-ever FA Cup goal.
The winger's third goal of the season was nothing more than what United deserved after a bright start to the contest, which had seen Sancho already clipping the crossbar and Ronaldo missing from 12 yards.
