JD Wetherspoon boss Tim Martin is calling on the Government to open pubs at the same time as non-essential shops with the industry "on its knees".
The chairman of the UK's biggest pub chain has warned that once restrictions are lifted pubs need to reopen to save jobs. He said pubs make a massive contribution to the economy, with JD Wetherspoon alone paying about £10 of tax for every pound of profit it makes.
More than 99% of its 37,674 employees are still furloughed as a result of national restrictions that came into force on January 5.
