West Lothian crumbling concrete campaigners to take protest to Holyrood

Home owners seeking compensation for crumbling concrete in their homes plan to protest at the Scottish Parliament later this month ahead of taking the campaign back to Livingston.Wilson Chowdhry, who leads a national group, told a meeting of West Lothian home-owners that the protest was going to Holyrood at noon on May 11.Local home-owners have also been invited to attend a protest at Livingston’s Civic Centre on May 14 ahead of a meeting of West Lothian CouncilWilson, whose daughter Hannah bought a house found to have RAAC roofing panels in Aberdeen, had already garnered support with a vocal campaign in the city before linking up with local Livingston campaigner Kerry Macintosh who fought for a new home for 18 years after the former council home she bought was condemned because of RAAC.A meeting was organised in the Tower bar in Craigshill by the local community council and the Transform Craigshill group.Livingston MP Hannah Bardell was there as were local ward councillors Damian Doran-Timson and Veronica Smith and Bathgate councillor Willie Boyle.The MP said: “The issue of RAAC concrete in the homes of people in Craigshill, Broxburn and other areas of West Lothian is hugely concerning.”Ms Bardell added: “I grew up in Craigshill and to see the distress and concern of local residents was very upsetting.

Equally though, there was a strong sense of community and support in the packed room at the meeting addressing the challenging issue of RAAC.
