Wes Brown declared bankrupt despite bumper Man United £50k-a-week wages

Two-time Champions League winner Wes Brown has been declared bankrupted at the High Court.The former Manchester United defender, who used to earn around £50,000 a week while at Old Trafford, saw HMRC file a bankruptcy petition against him earlier this year on February 27.

The High Court confirmed the action on April 12 and he was declared bankrupt, the Gazette reports. Brown signed as a schoolboy at Man United and went on to spend 15 successful seasons at the club which earned him 23 full caps for England.During his time under Sir Alex Ferguson Brown won the Champions League twice, the English Premier League five times while lifting the FA Cup twice and the League Cup once.

After leaving Manchester in 2011 Brown signed for Sunderland on a four-year deal. Brown was due to leave the Black Cats at the end of the 2014-15 season, however former Rangers boss Dick Advocaat offered him a one-year contract extension.After leaving Sunderland he signed for Blackburn Rovers where he played a handful of games at Ewood Park.
