The number of weekly Covid deaths fell by nearly 30 per cent in seven days, latest figures show. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) this morning said that in the week to February 26, 2,914 death certificates in England and Wales mentioned Covid-19.
This is down from 4,079 the previous week - a fall of 28.5 per cent. But the overall number of deaths from all causes was 9.2 per cent above average, the figures show.
A total of 12,614 people died during the seven days, a week-on-week fall of 1,195. Last week The Mirror reported that there had been more than 110,000 more deaths than usual in England and Wales since March.
