This Sunday, the Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to millions of people across the world.

Buckingham Palace will be releasing a portrait of the Queen on the day to mark the unprecedented milestone and has unveiled a full programme of events for this year, including parades, The Platinum Pudding Competition and the planting of 60,000 trees. “The Queen is really looking forward to this year’s celebrations.

It’s the focal point of 2022 for the whole Royal Family,” royal author Duncan Larcombe says. “It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Queen in person because her Christmas outings were cancelled.

But she’s simply taking it easy so she’s in full health for this year’s celebrations. “Courtiers are wary not to put too much pressure on her so she’s focusing on desk work, but in the coming months we should see her attend more virtual audiences.” Duncan continues: “We’ll also see other members of the royal family travelling a lot more as they pick up jubilee duties – Covid-permitting, of course. “One of the things that has characterised the Queen in her 95 years is that we often really don’t know what she’s thinking. “That’s incredibly astonishing in itself, especially when the public now knows just about everything there is to know about Harry and Meghan, for example.
