Horrified diners have told of the moment they fled a nearby restaurant after the ceiling collapsed and came crashing down into Pizza Express at Sal ford Quays on Sunday afternoon (September 8).
A huge emergency services response descended on The Quays at around 3.45pm to reports of a ceiling collapse. It was later confirmed a part of the ceiling, thought to have been below part of the Virgin Active gym above, came crashing down as people were inside eating.
Around eight ambulances, along with fire engines and police vehicles swarmed the scene, with the area outside the restaurant, at the Quayside shopping centre, also cordoned off.
A rescue mission was commenced, but it was later confirmed nobody had been injured in the incident.
