Head coach Niall Gartshore admits he is very happy with Waysiders/Drumpellier’s first half of the season, but insists his squad are capable of being even better in 2024.W/D are currently seventh in West Region Two with five wins, five losses and one draw from their first 11 games, having come up from West Three last season.There have been some frustrating moments, including a 21-21 draw with local rivals Cumbernauld, but Gartshore is happy with his lot as the team prepare for their first game of 2024, which comes on January 13 at home to a Lomond and Helensburgh side who ran out 20-5 winners back in October.Reflecting on the campaign so far, Gartshore said: “I’d say things have gone pretty well.
We have shown good progression from where the boys were last season.“It is a young team. The vast majority of boys are around 21/22-years-old so their performances speak volumes.“They are getting a wee bit more confidence in themselves that they can operate at this level.“There are a few in there who can play higher than where we are right now, so from that point of view the season has been really good so far.“If we can just get their minds into realising that they can be that bit better, it would help us kick on.“I think I am happy enough with where we are.
Being 50/50 in terms of wins and losses is not too shabby, considering where we’ve come from in the last 18 months.“I’m really happy.
I am the eternally glass half-full kind of person.“But we know there is more in that team – there’s decent ability in there and hopefully we show that in 2024.“The next game is not until January 13 so we’ve got a bit of time to work on things for then.”Gartshore was far from happy with their last performance against Lomond and Helensburgh and
