Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has been told to "give himself more time" before jumping into a position in the Premier League amid strong links with the Everton job.
The former striker started his career at Goodison Park before making the move to Old Trafford as a teenager, where he progressed into one of the world's top talents.
The Pride Park job is Rooney's first as a manager and has been a baptism of fire with the club's financial struggles and subsequent 21-point deduction this season.
But, with Rooney in charge, relegation is not guaranteed with the club winning four of their last five to move off the bottom of the table.
