Plans to convert a detached house on a leafy Prestwich street into a children’s home have met with more than 20 objections. Polarity Care Ltd have applied to Bury Council for permission to change the status of the four-bedroom house on Mowbray Avenue in the Sedgley area into a care home for three young people.
The youngsters residing there would be supported by six staff working in shift patterns. The application, which will go in front of Bury’s planning committee next week, states that one of the objectives of the care home would be to ensure children were able to live as part of the local community, functioning as much as possible as a ‘normal household’.
The change of use of the property has led to 22 objections, with nine representations supporting the plans. Objections published by Bury Council include that ‘creating an institution for at risk young people will have a profound negative impact as well as bring a level of crime, noise and potential violence as well as anti-social and anti-Semitic behaviour against us’.
Another objection, said: “Children will no longer be able to play outside or walk to the shops.” A third, stated: “Our children will be able to see their day to day lives which we don’t want them to see.” Other objections included increased traffic and the loss of a rental property.
