THIS is the flagship all-electric large SUV from Kia that will be ready for adventure and on the road next year. Although precise details of the new Concept EV9 model are still under wraps, the popular Korean marque says it is a hi-tech, flexible lifestyle vehicle that is powered by a zero-emissions powertrain.
About the same size as the Land Rover Discovery, Kia’s trademark Tiger nose has been reworked with a full body-coloured front and a new grille that includes a star cloud pattern display which is concealed behind the body panel when not in use.The restyled grille and “Digital Tiger Face” have also inspired signature vertical daytime running lamps front and back, as well as a new air vent design that greatly improves aerodynamics.There’s a solar panel to provide an alternative source of energy when owners are not close to a charging station, while retractable roof rails enhance airflow.A camera monitoring system replaces conventional wing mirrors to further aid aero efficiency and boost the spatial awareness of the driver.The muscular, robust design sees a blend of smooth surfaces and sharp angles and edges, while the EV9 sits on large, machined, 22in wheels and boasts a huge panoramic roof.The interior is said to be a “scenic, first-class lounge” with an interactive 27in ultra-wide display for all driver and passenger needs such as media and climate control.Eco-friendly materials used include recycled wool fibres, fishnets and plastic bottles, as well as vegan leather.
There are also two special modes that can be used when the vehicle is not moving.Pause sees the seats switch around to enable occupants in the first and third rows to face each other and the second-row seats fold down to become a table.The Enjoy
