K-pop girl group NewJeans recently covered Mariya Takeuchi’s iconic 1985 city pop single ‘Plastic Love’.Last night (June 26), NewJeans held the first of two shows of their 2024 ‘Bunnies Camp’ fan concert at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

During the show, each member of the K-pop girl group surprised the audience with solo performances.Notably, Hyein sang a cover of Mariya Takeuchi’s ‘Plastic Love’, which was first released in 1985 but has since seen a resurgence due to increased interest in city pop.

The concert is notably the K-pop star’s first performance since sustaining a foot injury last month.In fan-captured videos, NewJeans’s Hyein is accompanied by a live band for the performance. “Never truly love me / Love is just a game / If you enjoy it, that’s enough / Decorating my closed heart / With flashy dresses and shoes / Lonely friends,” she sings.Meanwhile, members Hanni and Minji performed covers of ‘Aoi Sangoshou’ by Matsuda Seiko and ‘Odoriko’ by Vaundy respectively.

Japanese-British singer Rina Sawayama, who will be a guest performer at tonight’s (June 27) show posted an Instagram story of herself dancing to Hanni’s performance.Danielle performed a solo track called ‘Butterfly’ which was reportedly composed by the NewJeans member.
