Warning to homeowners as simple boiler mistake could cost thousands

Experts have shared a common error homeowners make with their boilers that could lead to an expense running up to the thousands.

While many will be looking for ways to cut down consumption and spend less where possible, it could cost a lot more to repair or even replace a boiler.

Getting a boiler service is an added expense during the current cost of living crisis, but services could cost less than £100 a year while installing a new boiler can put you out between £1,500 and £3,500.

According to the experts at BOXT, not servicing your boiler every year could: The company's founder, Andy Kerr, comments: "You may save money in the short term, but not having a regular boiler service can put you and your family at risk, not to mention financially out of pocket."The average cost of repairing your boiler can be between £100 and £500, depending on the issue, and if you need an emergency repair this can add around £400 to the final bill."This costly expense can easily be avoided, and the best way to ensure that your boiler isn’t costing you more money than it should is by regularly servicing it."The expert adds that while one-off services may seem cheaper in the short term, a service plan could cost you less than £8 pounds a month, under £100 each year.As well as keeping your finances safe, landlords could face a fine for failing to get a gas safety check, which in some instances can double-up as a service.In Scotland, a Gas Safe engineer should carry out an Annual Landlord Gas Safety Record check.
