Vulnerable witnesses in trials are being left to wait for hours due to delays in accused criminals being brought into court.
The blame is being put on GEOAmey, which has a £240million contract to escort prisoners. In July, we told how its Scottish Prison Service deal was close to collapse, with up to 50 transfers a week missed.
Paul Sweeney, of Moir and Sweeney Litigation, has had several cases in which a client has been hours late to Glasgow Sheriff Court.He said: “People in custody are either getting brought to court late or we can’t get them brought up into the custody cells.
All this does is leave people who are vulnerable – in custody or witnesses – waiting hours wondering what is going to happen.“Last week we had a young man on remand.
