A twelve-year-old boy is among the youngest people in the UK to receive a coronavirus jab. The vaccination rollout has focused on ensuring the nation's elderly and most clinically vulnerable get their first dose.
But a group of youngsters have volunteered to become the first children to get the jab in the effort to stop the spread of the virus.
The group, including Bertie Wood, 12, received the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab last week as part of an ongoing national trial to test its immune response.
It will be given to 260 children in the coming weeks, in hopes it will produce a strong immune response to the virus. Bertie, from Wallingford, Oxfordshire, is one of the first youngsters in the country to have had the jab.
