A whole host of vital roads improvements are being carried out by North Ayrshire Council after extra money was earmarked for some of the work in last month’s budget.An additional £750,000 was added last month on top of the £3.8m rolling total in the budget for roads infrastructure and the money has already been allocated across the area.The core roads assets are currently estimated at around £1.7billion.
The programme is based on approved revenue and capital budgets.The following footway locations are being carried over from the 2023-24 maintenance programme due to an unforeseen contractor availability issue: Thorntree Avenue, Beith; St Margarets Avenue, Dalry; North Street / Braehead, Dalry.The following structure contracts are being carried over from the 2023-24 maintenance programme, feasibility and design works are ongoing: Seven Acres Mill Bridge, Treadmill Bridge, Carsehead Bridge, Dougarie Bridge and Catacol Bridge.Some of the resurfacing works include £250,000 on Warrix interchange to Greenwood interchange on the A71 and £200,000 on the A737 Marress Road Irvine southbound carriageway as well as £145,000 on the A738 Tesco to Mayfield Road, Stevenston and £165,000 on the B7048 at Portencross.Some £135,000 will be spent on the B777 near the school in Glengarnock and £135,000 on SharonSt/West Kilbride Road, Dalry.Projects being helped by the extra money include £150,000 on the Alsmwall Road car park in Kilwinning to the Nethermains Roundabout, £93,000 on the Merryvale Roundabout and £92,000 on Milton Road, Kilbirnie.Council leader Marie Burns has welcomed the improvements.She said: “It is good to see the spread of that work being done across all of North Ayrshire across all the localities and I would commend the team
