South Ayrshire's top cop says community intelligence proved vital in a 'day of action' which saw a haul of drugs and weapons seized.

Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie has praised residents for raising the alarm to officers after they blitzed addresses in Ayr and Girvan, making multiple arrests.Police stormed doors on Monday, March 20 as part of a planned 'day of action'.

A raid on Birch Terrace in Girvan uncovered Class A drugs and weapons including knives. Three men, aged 24, 30 and 39 were all arrested in connection with the sting.

With all three men appearing at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday.At an address in Ayr's Lochside Road, a 45-year-old man was charged with possession of a quantity of Class A and Class B controlled drugs.A property at Macadam Square also came under siege with a quantity of Class A drugs removed.
