A vicious mugger who left his 80-year-old victim in critical condition has been sent to prison for four years.Jason White put Alison McAdam's life in danger by dragging her to the ground and leaving her for dead as he stole her handbag.
Drug addict White admitted endangering Ms McAdam's life by assaulting her to her severe injury during the robbery in broad daylight.Solicitor Brian Bell, defending, said: "He ended up in Dundee and was clearly desperate for money for drugs when he committed this crime which can only be described as despicable."Sheriff Paul Brown said: "This was a very serious offence.
The degree of culpability was high and the harm caused was significant. A lengthy custodial sentence is inevitable."Homeless White left his victim for dead on the street as he fled the scene with her bag, hotly pursued by a horrified member of the public.Fiscal depute Lee Corr told Dundee Sheriff Court: "The victim was 80 years of age at the commission of this offence and walked with the aid of a walking stick.
At approximately 12.30 pm on 29 May 2023 White attended Boots to request a needle exchange. He stated he was homeless and used controlled drugs daily."Five minutes later the victim was on a pedestrian crossing and White crossed directly behind her.
