Vast holiday park plan in pipeline for Ayrshire coast as caravan village proposal emerges

Plans to create a coastal holiday park in Ardrossan have been submitted to North Ayrshire Council.The proposal would see 228 seasonal caravans dotted around a central activities/dining hub on the site of the former Montfode Oil Depot near the A78 at Eglinton Road, 1.5 miles from the town centre.The mooted 'Ardrossan Eco Village Park' tourism and leisure development would include a restaurant/bar, swimming pool, gymnasium, beauty treatment, soft play room and outdoor activities including a pony trek, mini golf and bowling green.In a design and access statement lodged with the local authority, developers Bothwell Land and Development Ltd say the 12,400 square metre park would maintain and promote Ardrossan’s integrity as an attractive coastal destination.They claim the proposed site's advantages include:The statement goes on: "Realising such proposals will generate local employment in necessary infrastructure improvements and construction works."Thereafter employment opportunities will be created to facilitate the daily running of the ‘village’, its contemporary accommodation, and facilities to provide the intended level of service and amenity for a range of resident needs to promote a high standard of living and wellbeing."The applicants add that the design of the proposed caravans will respect the semi-rural nature of the area and use renewably generated energy techniques at every opportunity to 'complement the village/small-town aesthetic which has always defined Ardrossan.'The full plans can be viewed here.Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines – sign up to our free daily newsletter here
