Two men from Rochdale have been arrested after a van ploughed into a police officer as he was picking up a bag in the street.
Police were initially called to the scene on Hewitt Avenue in St Helens, Merseyside, at around 8pm last night (Tuesday) after a backpack filled with cannabis was found on the road, the Liverpool Echo reports.
As the officer went to collect the bag, he approached a white Ford Transit van with a number of people inside. The van was then driven at the officer before it hit him.
The driver fled the scene. READ MORE:Girl rushed to hospital after dog 'badly' bites her in the face in park The officer was left seriously injured in the hit-and-run and was taken to hospital.
