Collin Morikawa hit a heroic drive to hold off Paul Casey and host of other big names to win his first Major title in a thrilling finish to the US PGA.
Seven players were tied for the lead at one point during the final round at Harding Park – and nine different players led. But it was the American and the Englishman at the top of the leaderboard until the 23-year-old Californian smashed his driver 294 yards onto the green at the par-four 16th hole before draining the seven-foot eagle putt to take a two-shot lead.
His closing 64 was the best final round by a PGA champion for 25 years in only his second Major Morikawa only turned pro last year after attending the University of Calfornia, Berkely in San Francisco and won his first PGA Tour
