Heron Foods has issued an urgent product recall over one of its popular kids chocolate treats. The store has warned some people could be at risk if they eat its Smileys Surprise Egg.The Food Standards Agency has raised the alarm that the product, sold across the bargain store's network, contains undeclared hazelnuts posing a serious risk for those with nut allergies.

The statement from the Food Standards Agency said: "Heron Foods is recalling The Smileys Surprise Egg because it contains hazelnuts (nuts) which are not mentioned on the label."This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to hazelnuts (nuts)." They went on to advise: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to hazelnuts (nuts), do not eat it.

Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For further details please contact info@heronfoods.com."Any size or batch code of the Smileys Surprise Egg is subject to the recall, which includes items with a 'best before' date of August 30, 2025.

Shoppers can identify specific batchcode and best before details on the edge of the packaging. The company advised customers that they can return the affected eggs to any Heron Foods store for a complete refund, regardless of having a receipt.
