A warning has been issued by Which? as dangerous carbon monoxide (CO2) alarms are being sold on various shopping sites. Listed on popular online retailers eBay, Amazon, AliExpress and Wish, the watchdog has suggested that the Government is failing to "take the urgent action needed" in order to hold online marketplaces legally accountable.
The consumer site found 149 listings for unsafe CO alarms across the four online marketplaces, with the listings all subsequently removed.
Following the findings, the only online marketplace that disclosed sales figures was eBay, which said that it had sold at least 1,311 of the alarms.Five unsafe alarm models features prominently on the sites when listings were filtered by cheapest first.
Some alarms, all branded and made in China, were being sold for as little as £5. One battery-operated model available on eBay was first flagged by Which?
